Native to much of eastern and southern Asia, the tiger is an apex predator and an obligate carnivore. Reaching up to 3.3 metres (11 ft) in total length and weighing up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds), the larger tiger subspecies are comparable in size to the biggest extinct felids. Aside from their great bulk and power, their most recognisable feature is a pattern of dark vertical stripes that overlays near-white to reddish-orange fur, with lighter underparts. The most numerous tiger subspecies is the Bengal tiger while the largest subspecies is the Siberian tiger. Highly adaptable, tigers range from the Siberian taiga, to open grasslands, to tropical mangrove swamps. ## HERE'S SOME WAYS ON HOW YOU CAN HELP THE ENVIRONMENT ## ###GROWN-UP THING### 1. Turn off lights, computers and other appliances when not in use. 2. Plant trees to shade your home. 3. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs to save money and energy. 4. Report smoking vehicles to your local air agency. 5. Don't use your wood stove or fireplace when air quality is poor. 6. Avoid slow-burning, smoldering fires. They produce the largest amount of pollution. 7. Walk or ride your bike instead of driving, whenever possible. 8. Check and fix any water leaks. 9. Don't wash dishes with the water running continuously. 10. Never dump anything down a storm drain. ###HERE'S WHATM CHILDREN CAN DO### 1. Throw trashes on the proper trash bin. 2. Turn off the light/lamp/computer and the plug-ins in your room when not in use. 3. Walk or ride your bike to scholl so that you won't waste fuel on your car. 4. Turn off the faucet when not in use Ex. When brushin teeth, don't leave water on the faucet running continuously. 5. Save trees, which are used to make paper, by using a lunch pail, rather than a paper bag each day. 6. Pick up litter that you see in your neighborhood and recycle whatever can be recycled - aluminum cans, glass, paper, cardboard, plastic things. 7. The crusade to save and protect the environment continues as Miss Earth officially marks the beginning of another meaningful milestone in its 11-year history. Reigning Miss Earth Nicole Faria of India and her court arrived in Manila for a week-long visit to the pageant's birthplace to undertake a series of activities that will raise consciousness on the need to save and protect the environment, and promote the coronation night slated in November in Pattaya, Thailand. Nicole is in the country together with Miss Earth Water Watsaporn Wattanakoon of Thailand, and Miss Earth Air Victoria Shchukina of Russia. They flew in from Bangkok after the successful launch of Miss Earth in its host country for 2011.
